“This is a great opportunity for all of us here at
Park Royal Shopping Centre,” said Vice President Rick
Amantea. “We’ve been looking for the right opportunity
to support Canadian athletes and to be part of the excitement
world-class sporting events will be bringing to Metro Vancouver.
To host the opening ceremonies and all of the best freestyle
skiers from across Canada and around the world is privilege
for us and we look forward to sharing this exciting opportunity
with our merchants and customers.”
This FIS Freestyle World Cup event will be the first international
sport event to be held on one of the new Vancouver 2010 Olympic
venues. Both mogul and aerial competitions will be held on
brand new courses at Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver, BC.
Moguls will be held Saturday, February 9th with the aerial
competition on Sunday, February 10th.
The Canadian team is a powerhouse in the sport of freestyle
skiing winning the prestigious FIS Nations’ Cup the
past two years. Canada has three current World Champions –
Kristi Richards from Summerland, BC won the World Championship
last year in Italy in single moguls (the Olympic discipline);
Pierre-Alexandre Rousseau from Drummondville, QC won the men’s
mogul title; and Spruce Grove, Alberta’s Jennifer Heil
(the 2006 Olympic gold medal winner) won the dual moguls title.
Heil and Kelowna’s Steve Omischl (in men’s aerials)
are also the current FIS World Cup champions – Heil
has won the moguls crown four consecutive years.
The organizing committee for the Canada Post Freestyle Grand
Prix is looking for volunteers – more information and
