Canadians hope for a repeat of last year at Sweden World Cup

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

After a fog-plagued event that never got off the ground for the men and ended in a one-run event for the women last week in Inawashiro, Japan; the Canadian Freestyle Mogul Team is very excited to be in Sweden for a double-header this week.

Will the trio of Bilodeau, Marquis and Rousseau sweep again in Sweden?

Are, Sweden is a freestyle Mecca of sorts. The team of volunteers running this week’s FIS World Cup event are virtually all retired freestyle athletes and the Canadian team has had excellent results here especially last season when the team took away six medals in two days of competition, including a podium sweep for the men in the single event; a silver for Jenn Heil in singles; and, a gold and a bronze for Alex Bilodeau and Maxime Gingras, respectively, in the duals.

Not only is the team hoping to recapture some of last year’s magic with its veteran athletes, but it is hoping some of its up-and-comers will take advantage of the energy at the event.

Teenagers Mikael Kingsbury and Béatrice Bilodeau will be competing in their first international World Cup events in Are. “It will be a tremendous experience for them to train and compete alongside their Olympian teammates,” said High Performance Director David Mirota.

As well, other Development Team members like Cédric Rochon, Audrey Robichaud and Philippe Marquis, who have all made World Cup finals at other events this year will benefit from more World Cup experience.

Single Moguls runs on Friday and Dual Moguls are on Saturday. For more information or to arrange post-event interviews please contact Media Relations Manager Kelley Korbin at: kelleykorbin@freestyleski.com.
